Surigao del Norte Gov. Sol Matugas confirmed that 4 dead, 13 seriously injured, and 68 victims are admitted in the hospital after the 6.7 magnitude earthquake occurred in Surigao City on Friday.
In an interview with DZMM Teleradyo, Matugas said that the province was still in chaos and still in the state of shock after the strong quake.
The governor said that 2 municipalities in the province do not have electricity, and 3 bridges were destroyed.
Meanwhile, Civil Aviation Authority of the Phils (CAAP) Public Information Officer Eric Apolonio confirmed that a NOTAM was issued starting today that would close the operations of Surigao airport due to the damaged runway in the airport.
“Ang terminal, kaunti lang ang damage. ‘Yung runway ang damaged talaga,” Apolonio said.
He suggested that Butuan airport can be an alternative.
“Sa Area 12 ng CARAGA, mayroon tayong Siargao at Butuan airports. ‘Yung Butuan ay pwedeng alternate airport,” Apolonio added.
As of 5AM, 89 aftershocks were recorded by PHIVOLCS.
