BOSTON – The Maple Leafs have one more game before the New Year, but its already clear what their resolution for 2015 will be and it starts in the defensive zone. White Air Max Online . Toronto got progressively worse defensively as the months of 2014 passed by, relying with increasing, alarming and familiar frequency on their goaltending tandem. The club has allowed an average of 38 shots against in the past 10 games, outshot by nearly 11 per game in that span. Theyve survived some nights on the pads of Jonathan Bernier, who is expected to be available to return Wednesday against the Bruins after missing the past two games with the flu. I think Im ready to go, said Bernier, after a short stint on the ice at Northeastern University on Tuesday afternoon. It just depends on Randys decision now. It wont be a difficult decision for the head coach given the 26-year-olds recent performance. Bernier was perfect in his final start before the three-day Christmas break, stopping all 43 shots in a win over Dallas. He posted a .928 save percentage in the month of December, despite facing an average of 37 shots per game. The Leafs won six of those nine starts, but have stumbled recently with five losses in the past six games. Their defensive (and coinciding possession) troubles have caught up to them, despite repeated calls for improvement. The shot clock usually doesnt lie, Bernier said. If they get 40-plus shots most of the nights, theyll win those games. Down with the flu since the early morning hours on Sunday, Bernier couldnt watch most of the past two defeats. The team hotel in Florida didnt get the game between the Leafs and Panthers – a 6-4 loss – though the middle frame of a 3-2 loss to the Lightning was available one night later. A product of the stingy Kings organization, Bernier has noticed a thing or two about whats ailed his second NHL club defensively and its tied to how little theyve had the puck, especially in the other end. I think the biggest thing is weve got to kill more time in their zone, he said. I think the biggest thing is weve got to cycle the puck more in their zone instead of just going for the rush game. I think weve got to spend more time wearing their [defence] down. When we play well, thats what we do. The Leafs have been the second worst possession team in December at 41 per cent and third worst overall this season. Even slight improvement there would be a small step toward a better 2015. Cheap Red Air Max . Will Venable and Ryan Ludwick drove in a run each for the Padres, who have taken six of their last seven contests and clinched their third straight series win after winning the first two in this set. Clayton Richard (4-9) allowed five hits and a pair of runs over seven innings, while fanning five. Nike Air Max 95 Sale . But luckily for the Canadian squad, one goal was all it needed. Winnipegs Sophie Schmidt scored the winner off a Diana Matheson corner kick to seal Canadas third-place spot in the Torneio Internacional de Futebol Feminino in Brazil on Sunday.TORONTO -- Changing the structure of overtime in NHL regular-season games might not be imminent, but continued discussions among the leagues general managers show there is interest in extending the extra period to cut down on the number of shootouts. Overtime was one of many of topics discussed at Tuesdays annual general managers meeting after Hockey Hall of Fame induction night, along with fighting, hybrid icing and the playoff format that was introduced for this season. No formal rule changes came about, though the purpose of this get-together is more to set up the next meeting in March. Forty of the first 262 games this season have gone to a shootout. GMs have been discussing making overtime 10 minutes to cut down on shootouts "to some degree," according to Ken Holland of the Detroit Red Wings. Holland proposed five minutes of four-on-four and then three minutes of three-on-three, while Doug Armstrong of the St. Louis Blues and others want simply 10 minutes of four-on-four. "I think there was an appetite in the room from all the managers and also from (commissioner Gary Bettman) to look at a way to extend overtime," Holland said. "And were talking about possibly do we switch (ends), longer changes and do some things to try to maybe have better ice, whether its more shovelling or something." Holland said its possible overtime gets extended to seven or eight minutes instead of 10, which he considers an improvement he could live with. Fighting was discussed both in general terms and in regard to goaltenders, after incidents this season involving Montreal tough guy George Parros suffering a conccussion after his head hit the ice and Philadelphia goaltender Ray Emery skating over the red-line to pummel Washington netminder Braden Holtby. Air Max 90 Sale. Tampa Bay Lightning GM Steve Yzerman said there wasnt much of a push to change the punishment for skaters fighting, but he and his colleagues discussed adding more of a punishment for goalies who cross centre to fight like Emery did. The GMs also got clarification on the playoff format, which could include wild-card teams crossing over because of total points even if four make it from each division in one conference. Under the new alignment and format, the top three teams from each division and two wild cards from each conference qualify. "Certainly my personal opinion is wherever possible to stay within the division, it creates rivalries, less travel," Holland said. "Thats obviously part of the reason why we went to two divisions in each conference was to build rivalries, less travel. Obviously theres a crossover component, we talked about it today, and thats why were going to continue to talk about it in March." Director of officiating Stephen Walkom briefed the GMs on hybrid icing, which Bettman said Monday was an ongoing adjustment for players and officials. Walkom said there are roughly the same number of icing plays as previous seasons but noted that no one has been injured crashing into the boards. Bullying was brought up in light of the situation with Richie Incognito and Jonathan Martin of the NFLs Miami Dolphins. "Every now and then, we all have to be reminded about whats acceptable and whats not," Yzerman said. ' ' '
